So, what's all this about then?
Welcome!
Whether you’re drawn to artsy craftsy excitement and projects, outdoor adventures, interested in wild plants, or just looking to carve out a grounded, multi-pronged life outside the traditional mould, I’m glad you’re here for the journey.
Hi, I’m Nan!
Born and raised in rural Ireland and currently based in Kildare, I’m at the very start of a new chapter—care to join me?
I'm a professional in food security, sustainability, and nutrition education by day. But, on the sidelines, with this new 'living roots' business, I am developing something more than just one focus or passion. I want to share and influence and reach out to those interested in more than just one niche.
I am focused on stepping back from the corporate grind and people-pleasing productivity. I am digging into reconnecting with the many activities that make me feel like 'me', and, post-burnout, discovering how the way I live can be healthy and sustainable.
Through real life experiences, study, and a good bit of trial and error, I’ve realized my health lies in having a balance between joy, fun, wonder, calm, rest, creativity, purpose, and connection: in simple terms, for now that seems to be translating into time spent in the mountains or on rivers, time in nature, hands-on creativity and new experiments with crafts and art, real social connection and community with those who feel like home, and the quiet satisfaction of living a down-to-earth life, making my own DIY projects at home, making food from scratch, returning to learning and adding more happiness into the everyday things.
The Ethos & The Journey
Living Roots is built on the idea that health and well-being have many roots—different foundations we build into our daily lives in our own unique way.
Humans aren't rigid or flawless, and we certainly don't thrive under endless rules or systems. This space is grounded in the down-to-earth, common-sense "no-notions" mentality my Irish mammy instilled in me from day one. It’s not about perfection; it’s a space for honest, curious, everyday living. Given my neurospicy brain, both routine and adventure are really important for me, so I try to build my love of learning into everything I do.
Right now, I’m sharing the products, practices, and lessons from my own journey as it unfolds:
- The Outdoors & The Trails: Documenting my training in mountaineering and outdoor leadership, exploring mountain routes, and sharing a deep love for wild spaces.
- Botany & foraging: Learning about local botany, observing seasonal shifts, and exploring the incredible world of wild plants.
- Art & Craft: Developing original, nature-inspired original prints and creative pieces (available via my Etsy shop - coming soon!).
Let’s See What Blooms Next
I’m actively building and growing this space as I go. If you’d like to follow along, share your email below to stay connected. I will send out a monthly newsletter and occasional important announcements when my shop goes up on Etsy, or when I've a new piece on sale! If you prefer, or in addition if you want to help me survive the algorithm, head down to the footer of this page to catch up on Instagram or Pinterest where I'll share as I go along.
